About me

Hi! My name in Jônatas (aka Jon).

Life has many facets, and it is super hard to describe myself over the internet for someone I don’t know. So, I’ll give a description which is fitting for the purpose of this site, which showcases my work.

I’m a futurist and explorer of ideas. Creativity and abstract thinking are my realms. I am extremely curious and always want to see what lies beyond the horizon. I want to improve the status of technology and make it more humane. As a means to contribute toward that goal, I choose the path of independent research.

My specialties are information architecture and design-thinking. This focus allows me to approach a wide range of topics from various perspectives, making me a generalist in practice.

As we’re living in the information revolution, I’ve naturally developed concrete skills in the domains of visual design and software engineering. I use those abilities to make the world a little more pleasurable and sane for the people who interact with my creations.

I have a deep appreciation for the history of information and computing, and I believe we’ve lost some important aspects on our journey to modernity. Particularly, simplicity has become increasingly scarce, and I’m passionate about reintroducing it into mainstream discourse. While the complexity of our society presents challenges, it also offers countless opportunities for innovation, which I actively pursue.

The battle to conquer complexity is endless, and it has been bravely fought by numerous people, better than me, throughout history. I treasure their legacy and wish to fight alongside them, dedicating myself wholeheartedly to the cause. Conquering complexity is conquering entropy, and conquering entropy is survival.

Here’s an incomplete list of heroes of mine: John Archibald Wheeler, John Von Neumann, Alan Kay, Douglas Engelbart, Claude Shannon, Jef Raskin.

I was born in 1990, and I messed with computers since the age of ten. I have used a lot of different applications and technologies to materialize my ideas. Nowadays, you’ll find me using Vim to edit Rust and Javascript source code. I also work with various apps in the Adobe suite. I don’t consider myself a specialist in any technology, but I am constantly improving my knowledge of them.

I believe in learning from first principles, as this allows me to get a foundational grasp of domains and facilitates the absorption of new collateral knowledge. I’m a dropout from Industrial Design and am self-taught in various domains. For an overview of my professional career, please check out my LinkedIn Profile.

I currently work part-time, providing consulting and design services for my clients. You can reach me through jon at this domain.
